What the app does on your network

NetSweep Wi‑Fi Scanner (“NetSweep”) scans the local network your iPhone or iPad is connected to. It sends ping, TCP, Bonjour, NetBIOS and DNS requests to addresses on that network to find devices and their names. These requests stay on your local network. NetSweep has no server and sends nothing about you or your network to Steije Hillewaert or anyone else.

What is stored, and where

The device list, custom names, notes and first/last-seen times are stored only on your iPhone or iPad, in the app's own storage. They are not synced or uploaded. Deleting the app, or Forget All Devices in its settings, removes them. A CSV export is only created when you choose to share one.

No tracking

Optional updates

The manufacturer database is built into the app. Only if you tap Update from IEEE in Settings does NetSweep download the public list of hardware manufacturers from the IEEE website. That request contains nothing about you or your network.

Notifications

New-device notifications are optional and created on the device itself. No push service is used.

Children

NetSweep collects no data from anyone, including children.
